When you’re here

Local events

Summer is the island’s busy season, so there’s usually something on — the kids’ disco in the park, a festival, music under the stars. Here’s what tends to run, checked against the local tourist boards, with a link to each for exact dates.

In and around Jelsa

Children’s mini disco

Sundays & Wednesdays · summer evenings

Song, dance and rhythm for the little ones in Jelsa Park, run for years by the local Carnival Association. A reliable, joyful way to fill an evening. Visit Jelsa ↗

Dječje ljeto — Summer for Children

July to early September

A whole summer programme of activities for young children across Jelsa — workshops, shows and games. Perfect alongside camp. Visit Jelsa ↗

Jelsa Wine Festival

A weekend in August (2025 was 22–24 Aug)

The town’s big August celebration — wine tastings and concerts, plus gloriously local touches: water polo in the harbour, a rowing race, a fire show, fireworks, and a competition to climb a 10-metre greased pole for a whole smoked ham. Visit Jelsa ↗

Lavender in bloom

Mid–late July

Not an event so much as a season — Hvar’s lavender fields come into colour and scent in midsummer. Worth a drive inland to see and smell.

Elsewhere on the island

Jazz & Wine Festival, Stari Grad

21–24 July 2026 (Wine Market 22–23)

Four nights of live jazz and Dalmatian wine under the stars in the old town, about 15 minutes away — the 8th edition. Visit Stari Grad ↗

Hvar Summer Festival

July–September · Hvar Town

Classical and contemporary performances since 1961, many in the historic Arsenal. (A surprise concert on Galešnik island is set for 18 July 2026.) Programme ↗

St. Rocco’s Feast — Day of Stari Grad

16 August

Stari Grad’s patron-saint feast and town day, with a procession, music and a festive evening in the old town. Visit Stari Grad ↗

A few exact 2026 dates aren’t published yet (the Wine Festival weekend in particular firms up closer to the season). The links above are the official tourist boards — check them, or the posters around the square, once you’re there.
